According to the Rhinelander daily news, The Green Bay Packer's held a week long training camp in Rhinelander over 73 years ago--August, 1935! The Rhinelander daily news wrote daily articles on the Packers practices (held at the high school)--the team and there wives stayed at Sam Johnson's Pinewood Resort, now Pinewood Lodge!

Three future NFL Hall of Famers took part in the Rhinelander Training Camp. Quarterback Arnie Herber, fullback Clarke Hinkle with Curly Lambeau--during their down time at the Pinewood resort, according to the articles, the team would play horseshoes, cards, shuffleboard and would swim in Lake Thompson.
